don't forget the parking ticket...

born out of lack of space which is pretty common to tokyo’s inner city, the architects office cheungvogl came up with an idea for a car park that is not just economic in cost and space management but creative and ecological at the same time.

The cladding of the structure is cost-effectively replaced by wide balustrades, providing the ground for grass to grow. in this way it is creating “green walls” which are certainly the better and visually more inviting option as opposed to the common view on parking cars. the idea continues in the “shinjuku gardens” - a green oasis placed on top of the car-dedicated facility. and to make the whole thing even more intersting, street art is exhibited inside the car park, making use of the structure as blank canvases for young artists. additionally the common car park lighting is replaced by neon-light installations.

who says car parks have to be dull and ugly…
